Love brightening your space with fresh cut flowers? So do Alicia Zorn and Annita Bokobli, the creative talents behind blossoming East Fremantle-based florist, Floral Army.
There’s a lot to love about posies of colourful blooms. Research has shown that despite being the perfect way to inject a fresh burst of colour to your home, fresh flowers also offer a whole host of physical and mental health benefits – they improve air quality while boosting positivity, energy and enthusiasm.
Having worked in the floristry industry for over 15 years now, Alicia Zorn and Annita Bokobli know better than most the incredible power of the humble flower. For years, they styled gorgeous weddings and lent their floral flair to events across Perth, adding pizzazz only flowers can give.
Inside Floral Army.
Almost three years ago now, they took the plunge and opened Floral Army, a bright, light-filled corner store on George Street, East Fremantle, filled with top quality blooms, plants and gifts.
But if you’re passing by The Black Truffle, you can also find Anita and Alicia’s handy work in-store. The girls now supply us with innovative and artistic bouquets, made from locally-grown seasonal products wherever possible.
To celebrate our new partnership, we decided to take five with this dynamic duo to see what makes them tick.
TBT: What lead to the creation of Floral Army?
FA: We started Floral Army after working together in the industry for many years. Floral Army initially specialised in weddings and events and two and a half years ago, we opened the doors of our pretty corner store on George Street.
TBT: What separates your business from other florists? What makes you stand out?
FA: We enjoy creating an experience for our customers. Our store’s aesthetic is simple and light filled. We love to showcase the beautiful variety of blooms that are available. They are the big stars.
We love working with textured and organic materials. We love to combine interesting combinations. We enjoy exploring current trends and interpreting them into our style. Our passion for floral design translates into interesting window displays that change regularly, celebrating the seasons.
TBT: What do you love most about your job/industry?
FA: First and foremost, we love the flowers, we are total flower nerds! Supporting local growers and sourcing beautiful plants and vase ware.
TBT: What’s the most challenging aspect of being a florist?
FA: Bad hands! No manicures for us haha!
TBT: And the most rewarding?
FA: Every day is completely rewarding. We have the privilege of helping people express their emotions through beautiful flowers.
If you were a flower, which would you be?
Alicia: A beautifully scented garden rose.
Annita: Can’t choose. I love them all!!
