August's Cheese of the Month

03 Aug 2016

See why we’re currently coveting Queso Manchego and The Fine Cheese Co Cave Aged Cheddar.

What’s better than a wedge of nutty, buttery aged manchego cheese? A free wedge, of course!

Over recent weekends you may have experienced The Black Truffle’s free in-store cheese tasting. Most recently, we’re been crazy about queso manchego and The Fine Cheese Co. Cave Aged Cheddar and have been sharing the love with our customers.

If you missed the fun, here’s all you need to know about both. You’ll find them among our gourmet selection of cheeses instore.

The Fine Cheese Co Cave Aged Cheddar ($69.95/kg)

This handmade, traditional cheddar is produced using milk from Dorset farms in England. It’s matured in natural caves in the Mendip Hills near Somerset and then presented in a traditional cheesecloth wrap. This allows the cheese to breathe whilst maturing and helps give it an earthy finish. Unlike many traditional farmhouse cheddars, Cave Aged has a slightly sweet flavour profile and a texture that’s full and creamy with a tangy bite.

Enjoy it with big bold Cabernet Sauvignon in front of the heater this winter.

Queso Manchego ($69.95/kg)

Aged for six months, this manchego gets heartier and fuller flavoured the older it gets. Hailing from the La Mancha region of Spain, the cheese is made from sheep’s milk and has a more developed flavor and firmer texture than younger manchegos. Salty, nutty, buttery and with just the slightest hint of sweetness, the cheese elevates any tapas or antipasto platter.

Enjoy it drizzled with truffle honey. For entertaining it’s a sure-fire crowd pleaser.

Missed last month’s cheese tasting? Make sure you pop in on Saturday August 20 and treat your taste buds to our gorgeous, decadent, fromage des clarines – the perfect accompaniment to any spring sundowner.
