Mother’s Day gift guide

05 Apr 2018

Mother’s Day only comes around once a year, so it’s important we make it count! If you’ve forgotten to show your mum how much she’s valued recently, get back in her good books by giving her a gift you know she’ll love. Here are some of our favourites… and they’re not all foodie-inspired either!

1. Throw Mum a high tea

Instead of taking Mum out on Mother’s Day, why not surprise her with a fully catered high tea? Entertaining at home means you can create a completely bespoke menu, matched to the drinks of your choice. And Instead of spending Mother’s Day prepping and stressing in the kitchen, having your afternoon catered allows you to focus all your attention on Mum while we take care of business.

We have a wide range of high tea menu items to choose from including (but certainly not limited to) finger sandwiches, petite quiche, mini arancini, smoked salmon dill cream cheese tartlets, roasted beetroot sesame bites, Italian custard-filled cannoli, lemon curd and chocolate mousse tarts, house-made friands, petite scones with jam and cream and more. Contact us for a customised quote.

2. Mr Bob’s puzzles, from $39.95

Does Mum love a good jigsaw? We’re thrilled to be stocking the Mr Bob’s range of puzzles, made by North Fremantle-based digital artist, Bob Williams. Bob’s complex and intriguing images, which have been exhibited in New York, perfectly translate into puzzles ranging from 70 through to 1000 pieces.

Jigsaws exercise both the left and right sides of the brain. The left side thinks logically, and follows sequence and order, while the right is creative, intuitive and emotional. Putting together jigsaw puzzles requires you to tap into both brain powers. Puzzles are good for improving short-term memory, visual-spatial reasoning and the ability to problem-solve. Plus, sitting down to a good jigsaw is a fun activity for the whole family. (Pictured: Emperor of the Lake, 16 x 30-inch, 756-piece puzzle.)

3. Gourmet gift hamper, from $50

Gourmet gifts are what we do best, so if you’ve got a foodie mum to spoil, you won’t go wrong with one of our hampers. Crammed full of artisan and often hard-to-find treats, the hampers are available in a range of sizes and cater to both savoury and sweet-toothed mums. We have a range of pre-wrapped hampers in-store and we also love creating bespoke packages, so peak to our friendly team if you have something special in mind.

4. Claudio Biscotti, $15.95 each

Give your tea-drinking mum some authentic Italian biscotti to go with her next cuppa.

If you’ve been to the Margaret River Weekend Farmers’ Markets, chances are you’ve sampled Claudio Tallarico’s handmade Italian treats, made with quality, fresh ingredients, and love, just the way his grandmother made them. Now, Claudio has taken his range of traditional biscotti and boxed them up so those not in the South West can enjoy his goodies too.

Made in Cowaramup, his small batch range includes five different flavours. Ossa da Mordere is a simple Sicilian hazelnut and cocoa biscuit, best enjoyed with a strong espresso or sweet glass of wine. There’s the classic Napoletani, a fruity Neapolitan biscuit enriched with glace cherries, sultanas and almonds – baked twice these crucnhy treats are perfect for dunking. Cantucci is a Tuscan almond biscotti lightly scented with citrus and vanilla. Ciambelle Romane is a round, almonst doughnut-like biscotti. And originally from Sardinia, Amaretti Sardi is a light Almond-based biscuit, similar to a French macaron.

5. Fresh flowers and a heart-felt greeting card. Bouquets from $29, cards, $7.

If you’ve ambled along George Street in East Fremantle, you’re sure to have lingered at the bright, bloom-filled windows of local florist, Floral Army. Owners Alicia Zorn and Annita Bokobli have worked in the industry for over 15 years, adding their floral flair to events and weddings across Perth. The duo are two of our favourite florists and if you’re looking to spoil mum with freshly cut, in-season flowers, you’ll find their artistic bouquets in-store at The Black Truffle. On Mother’s Day we pump up the flower power by offering a larger range than usual. Select one of our artisan gift cards to add a personal note to your bouquet.

6. The Cheeky Project chocolates, from $10.

Guilt-free chocolate? YES PLEASE! We can’t wait to get our paws on The Cheeky Project’s range of Cheeky Cacao chocolates (in-store from April 18). The Perth-based company makes artisan chocolates that are naturally free from gluten, dairy, soy, refined sugar, additives AND preservatives.

Better still, they also happen to be some of the tastiest chocolates we’ve tried in a while. The range includes solid bars and boxes of gorgeous truffle cups. Trust us – your Mum will be thrilled!

You’ll find these great Mother’s Day gifts and so many more in-store at The Black Truffle.
